We've been busy the last two weeks learning all about healthy eating and the different food groups. Hopefully, you've noticed your child making some smart choices about food. We've been discussing a "Balanced Plate" and what that should look like for first graders. In case you're wondering yourself, click on this link:
Here are some of our own balanced plates! The children worked hard to sort the foods into the correct food groups. To learn all about the different food groups, we've been reading through and completing our balanced plate books.
We also started Work Board this week! During Work Board, the students complete reading and writing activities in small groups while I'm leading guided reading groups. I like to spend at least 1 hour each day reading to small groups of students (2-3 at a time) so it's important for the other children to be engaged in meaningful learning.
We also celebrated Spencer's 15 minutes of fame this week with some science experiments. The children had a BLAST seeing soap expand in the microwave and making their own flubber.
