We've been busy this week learning all about ways to stay safe at school and at home. We had a special visit today from Officer Adams, who spoke to the children about his job and why it's so important. Don't be surprised if your child suddenly wants to be a police officer for Halloween!!
We also read Officer Buckle and Gloria and LOTS of other safety books. After coming up with a list of safety tips we thought were important (Never run near a cliff!!), the children wrote and illustrated their own Safety Books.
Here are a few pictures to show you some other activities from this week.
This is our morning calendar. It takes about 20 minutes each morning, but it's packed with important math skills. We go over the days of the week, the months of the year and the day's date. We use place value to keep track of the number of days we've been in school and the number of days we have left. We use a fact triangle to complete a daily fact family. We solve a problem of the day, show different ways to represent a money amount and create number sentences for a given number. If that's not enough, we also practice counting forwards and backwards by 1's, 5's and 10's, review even and odd numbers and will soon use relation symbols to compare sets of numbers. The children love starting our day off with the calendar so ask your child all about it.
